New Bishop in Our Companion Diocese

The Very Rev. Ricardo Joel Gómez Osnaya has been elected as the fourth diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Western Mexico, our companion diocese.

The episcopal consecration could be in the first week of April 2018.

Bishop elect Osnaya most recently served as the dean of the Cathedral of San Pablo and archdean of San Luis Potosí. He was elected in the first and only round of voting with a large majority.

Even as a layman, Father Ricardo implemented missionary work in various parts of the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, which he has intensified in San Luis Potosí and other areas of the region. Bishop elect Osnaya has participated in the work team that reopened the Center for Theological Studies of San Andrés (CETSA) where he completed his theological studies, where he has been dean and is currently a professor. He has represented his diocese in the executive council of the Anglican Church of Mexico and the Mexican province before the Anglican Communion as a member of the global Anglican Consultative Council.

In the ecumenical field, he participates actively in the group of historical churches in Guadalajara and as founder of the Manuel Aguas Chair at CETSA, managing the presentation of renowned academics as speakers, as well as promoting the production of a book on Manuel Aguas, with sponsorship of YO SOY (I AM).

The current financial scheme for the Western diocese was developed and implemented through a task group in which he collaborated as a member, while also a biologist at the University of Guadalajara (UdeG); he has also served as diocesan treasurer.
