Only churches that have completed a Physical Needs Assessment by F3 (or diocesan approved vendor) are eligible to apply for property funding. For more information on the property grant process see Information on Property Grants. If grants are greater than $5,000, three bids are required. If less than $5,000, one bid is required.

Operational Grants

Attaining Self-Sufficiency or Ongoing Nurturing of a Budding Ministry
Applications accepted May 1 – June 15 | Awarded during first quarter of award year

Operational grants provide a means for communities within congregations or congregations to reach self-sufficiency within three to five years.

Fearless Love

Innovative Startup Ministry
Applications accepted May 1 – June 15 | Awarded during first quarter of award year

Fearless Love grants provide start-up money for new, innovative ministry ideas in congregations.
Typically, grant awards range from $100 to $5,000 and average $1,630. Let imagination prevail in grant application submissions. Priority consideration goes to innovative ministry ideas meeting one or more of the following specifications:

  • Engage in active digital evangelism: five $1,000 grants to purchase a smart TV, stand, and one-year Internet service to rural, small churches with less than 50 Average Sunday Attendance (ASA)
  • Reach and connect with college students and college campuses, young adults
  • Partner with other churches in a mission area or in the diocese
  • Energize diverse congregations
  • Connect the church with its neighborhood
  • Plant new church communities in under-served areas
  • Reimagine church boldly
  • Strengthen the relationship between churches and their church day schools

Outreach, Advocacy and Ministry

New or Ongoing Mission Needs

These grants provide mission funding for diocesan programs and ministries.

Priority will be given to ministry ideas that:

Fearless Love Multicultural 

Innovative Ministry
Applications accepted May 1 – June 15 | Awarded during first quarter of award year

Following Jesus’ way of creating loving, liberating, and life-giving relationships with God, each other, and all creation.

Priority will be given to innovative multicultural ministry ideas around:

  • Partnering with other churches in a mission area or in the diocese
  • Nurturing/energizing diverse congregations
  • Raising up young people and young adults
  • Forming disciples of all ages
  • Enhancing spiritual vitality
  • Engaging the church in its neighborhood
  • Creating new church communities in underserved areas
  • Reimagine church boldly

The diocese will accept:

  • grant applications for start-up costs for a new multicultural ministry, not for the continuation of an ongoing ministry unless there is a definite new direction added to the existing program; or
  • grant applications for seed money for start-up positions, either full- or part-time for a new ministry.

Essential requirements of a Fearless Love Multicultural Focus grant applicant include:

  • spending grant money within one year of receipt of the grant;
  • returning the final report of the funds within one year of receipt of the grant;
  • showing a connection with The Episcopal Church; and
  • showing financial or in-kind support. 

The diocese will NOT fund:

  • project site/programs for two consecutive years;
  • capital campaigns or debt reductions;
  • deferred maintenance (repairs or upgrades to the physical plant or facility must be tied to the specific ministry or project of the current application);
  • operational budgets (meaning the proposed budget and program is the same as the year before);
  • debts obligated or incurred before the date of the grant award;
  • maintenance or printing of marketing materials, or a website; however, the initial development/creation of materials, videos, or a website can be funded;
  • fees of architects or engineers, insurance of any kind, shipping costs,
  • contingency funds or overhead costs;
  • rent or leasing of any kind;
  • modifications or construction of property; previously funded requests;
  • incomplete grants applications;
  • emergency response requests; or
  • a vehicle with a 12 or 15 passenger chassis (due to stability and insurance matters);
  • any vehicles that are not the property of a church or diocese of The Episcopal Church.

Please note – any grant application submitted that is not within the criteria guidelines will not be considered.
