Beloved,
Let us hold in our prayers today, and in the days ahead, Jonathan DeGuzman and Wade Irwin, two police officers shot in San Diego last night. Officer DeGuzman has died and Officer Irwin is recovering from surgery. Pray for their families. We should also remember the impact that this moment has on the whole law enforcement family. This is a time of sorrow and anxiety for them, especially. Let us honor all who serve and protect by thanking individual officers for their service. It is important that they know we appreciate them and we care for them.
And finally, let us pray for the safety of our communities in this city, this diocese, this nation, and this world. May God’s love move us to be gentle with each other.
Faithfully,
The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes
Bishop
