The mobile shower unit, Showers of Blessings, is operational at St Anne’s, Oceanside for people who are homeless every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are hoping to soon expand to using it every Saturday morning at the Episcopal Church Center in Ocean Beach. For that to happen, we need volunteers to check in guests for showers. Look for information coming soon from the Rev. Bob Nelson about a training session in Ocean Beach as well as a blurb to put into your church bulletins that requests volunteers. If we can get one volunteer coordinator and ten or so volunteers, folks will only work one Saturday a month. The time commitment will be 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. Volunteers need to be age 14 and older.
Guests who showers receive a hygiene bag to take with them. If your church is interested in collecting items, the biggest needs are combs, small sunscreen bottles, razors, and small deodorants.
We’ll soon be posting a folder in Dropbox with the Showers of Blessings logo, volunteer info, bulletin copy, hygiene kit needs list, and more. Contact Deacon Bob Nelson if you would like to get involved: bobnelson1@hotmail.com.
