Build a Miracle Program

Build a Miracle, a San Diego-based nonprofit, builds homes for needy families in Tijuana, and recently partnered with Good Samaritan in University City. A $10,000 investment is required for construction costs and then the church also raised funds to collect an additional $2,500 to help furnish the home. They sent volunteers to Tijuana three Saturdays over a two-month period to assist with construction, painting, drywalling, etc. The family getting the home worked with them so they had lots of opportunity to interact, play soccer with the kids, etc. All ages went to the site (ages 6 and up). The Good Samaritan folks drove to Otay Mesa and walked across the border. Build a Miracle then had buses transport everyone to the construction site.

The volunteers at Good Sam thought the program was incredibly well-organized and well-run and found the experience transformative. This might be a really great project for a few churches to collaborate on. Maybe it could be one of our quarterly collaborative projects in 2015?
