The Rev. Paige Blair, rector of St. Peter’s, Del Mar, has issued a challenge. The congregation that brings the greatest number of new people to the Refugee Network gala on Saturday, May 9 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park, will receive a personalized icon written especially for them. It will be 11” x 14” and will be a patron saint, feast day, the saint of their choice, or an icon of Christ. Depending on the complexity of the icon, its value will be $700-$900.
In a stake-raising move, the Rev. Blair also dangled a commissioned 5” x 7” icon for the priest/pastor who brings the most new people. This smaller icon is intended for the priest/pastor’s own devotional use.
So join in the fun, and start inviting those neighbors. Come to the RefugeeNet Amazing Journey Gala at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park, San Diego. Tickets are $85 and the proceeds benefit RefugeeNet programs to assist refugees as they resettle in San Diego. Tickets are available here: www.epsicopalrefugeenetwork.org.
