Youth Summer Mission Trip 2015

2015 Diocese of San Diego Youth Summer Mission
Baja, Mexico with Amor Ministries (www.amor.org)
June 16-20, 2015

Scope: In four work days, we will work together to build three houses for truly homeless families from top to bottom-pouring the slab, framing, siding, and roofing. Each day will include devotional time, group formation, and debriefing, hosted by youth leaders and clergy from the diocese.

Setting: in solidarity with our partners in Mexico, we will be sleeping in tents at a campground between Tijuana and Tecate and using bucket showers. All of our food will be prepared by local residents and all water will be bottled in ready supply.

Liaison: Amor ministries, based in San Diego, has facilitate mission trips like ours for many years and will facilitate our border crossing, community relationships, and construction and guide us in travel and administration. For more information, see www.amor.org.

Packing list: All tools will be provided, as will all building supplies. A formal packing list will arrive later in the spring, but will largely consist of regular needs- toiletries, sleeping bag, work appropriate clothes, sunscreen, etc. Students under 18 will need either a photo id and birth certificate or a passport. All 18 or older will require a passport.

Cost: Approximately $400 (the approximation depends on travel insurance rates in Mexico, which are subject to variance). Includes all meals, transportation, tools, building supplies. Christ Church Coronado will serve as the financial and logistics coordinator for the trip, so all checks may be addressed to Christ Church with 2015 summer mission in the memo. First payment of $200 is due on or before 3-1-15 and balance to be paid by 5-20-15. All payments can be mailed to the Rev. Mike Stone: 1114 9th St., Coronado, CA 92118.

Who can go?: Any diocesanly connected youth who will be in the eighth grade or above in the fall of 2015.

What if I have questions?: Do not hesitate to talk with the Rev. Mike Stone at 619-435-4561 or email mstone@christchurchcoronado.org.
