Wayfarers is a Youth Mentorship Program rooted in growing discipleship and leadership skills for youth in grades 10–12. Through intentional mentorship, faith formation, leadership development, and Christian community, youth are equipped for ministry within their congregations, the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego, and beyond.
The program includes two retreats each year, ongoing mentorship, and opportunities for youth to develop their gifts while building meaningful relationships with peers and adult mentors. It also includes an invitation to 9th graders at the Spring event to begin their journeys.
Wayfarers comes directly from youth voice. This comes from a significant increase in interest and applications for the Youth Leadership Council, as well as listening to young people across our Diocese. More than seeking a leadership title, students are looking for mentorship, belonging, opportunities to serve, and deeper formation as disciples of Jesus Christ–together.
The Wayfarer’s Journey Includes
Fall Retreat (Overnight)
A weekend focused on leadership development and discipleship with mentors from across the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego while creating opportunities for youth fellowship and Christian community.
Eligibility: Grades 10–12
Spring Retreat
A continuation of leadership development and discipleship for students in grades 10–12. Freshmen may be invited to participate upon recommendation from clergy, youth ministers, or YLC mentors as emerging leaders.
Follow-Up Mentoring Zooms
Each retreat will include follow-up Mentoring Zooms to encourage continued community relationships, mentorship, and leadership development throughout the year.

Why Wayfarers?
Three-Year Journey
Wayfarers is designed as a three-year, opt-in program featuring a three-year rotating curriculum. Students are encouraged to participate throughout their high school years, allowing leadership skills, discipleship, and mentoring relationships to deepen over time.
Peer Mentorship
Senior members of the Youth Leadership Council (YLC) and Wayfarers will serve as peer mentors during the Spring Retreat, helping younger students discover their gifts, build community, and discern future leadership opportunities within the Diocese.
