Refugee Net’s New 2017 Board Members

Refugee Net is proud to announce two new members of the 2017 Board of Directors – Naomi Madsen who attends St. Alban’s and Liz Mahon who attends St. Bartholomew’s.

Naomi has vast experience working with refugees.  She founded and directed a resettlement agency affiliated with Church World Service (CWS), she worked as church involvement coordinator at a Catholic resettlement agency, served as national program manager organizing church involvement in refugee and immigration ministries for the United Methodist Church and served as director of a CWS resettlement agency.  Naomi believes firmly that personal, face-to-face relationships between refugees and congregations and their members are transformational, not just for refugees, but for the church.

Liz Mahon recalls that . . . “Attending a presentation at St. Bartholomew’s Church by refugee network staff introduced me to the Episcopal Refugee Network in 2011.

Two sons grown, I was ready to step out of my suburban comfort zone and into the tutoring program at St. Mark’s Church in City Heights.

What greeted me were children eager to learn English and glad for help with their homework.  My joy is working with other RefugeeNet tutors from all over San Diego county to help provide a positive learning environment. ”

The goal of Refugee Net is to help refugees become productive citizens.  Board terms last for a period of 3 years and members are an active and integral part of the organization.  For more information please visit www.refugee-net.org or call (619) 283-1337
