I believe in this mission and it is obvious our congregation agrees. St. John’s, Chula Vista parishioners purchased and I assembled a record 105 backpacks for the South Bay Community Services (SBCS). These backpacks go to very special needy children; some of them have suffered abuse and family breakup due to violence in the home in the South Bay community. The backpacks are given out to by SBCS as part of their many social programs in local schools.
Since the cost of each backpack is about $10 and the supplies take up close to $35, this represents over $4,500 in loving support to children in need of a normal school restart. Our St. John’s church backpacks include pencils, erasers, ruler, paper, scissor, crayons, colored pencils, notebooks, glue sticks; some have calculators and pencil boxes or dictionaries.
This is just one of many ways our congregation delivers time, energy and treasure to support those less fortunate. Please know that these backpacks may bring a child closer to a normal life that is desperately needed.
God Bless,
St. John’s, Chula Vista.
