DESCRIPTION:As a response to The Episcopal Church  Sacred Ground series and more recent LARK trainings\, several EDSD congregations among others across the country have discussed the importance of honoring the First People whose sacred land was stolen from them.  Some have composed a land acknowledgment; some have gone beyond a land acknowledgment to learn more about the country’s and church’s checkered past to find ways to grow in relationship with our Indigenous siblings and learn how to be in solidarity with them. \nWith Sarah Augustine’s The Land is Not Empty: Following Jesus in Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery comes opportunity through a virtual book study. \n“If insight is the prophetic task  – and I believe it is – this book is prophecy. Beautifully weaving together her moving personal narrative\, the narrative of destructive colonization\, the narrative of courageous resistance and life of Indigenous Peoples around the world\, and\, through it all\, the narrative of resurrection and Jesus’ promise of the world to come\, Sarah Augustine engages your mind\, your heart\, and your future.”  \nThe Most Rev. SUMMARY:Lay Catechist Training Registration
DESCRIPTION:A Catechist is a lay person authorized to prepare persons for Baptism\, Confirmation\, Reception\, and the Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows. They function under the direction of the Member of the Clergy or other leader exercising oversight of the congregation or other community of faith. Their work is deeply important in expanding discipleship within a congregation. \nThe course is designed to not just cover faith formation for children\, youth\, and adults\, but also invites participants to consider\, “What does it look like to offer congregational formation?” Throughout the course we will evaluate and adapt curriculum that is already available to meet their contexts. By course end\, each participant will have designed a program that they will offer to the congregation in the year ahead. \nApplicants for a catechist license must attend a six-session training course. Each meeting will be held at 6:00 PM on the 4th Tuesday of the month on Zoom. Below are the dates and subjects for each class. Applicants must attend all six sessions and complete a project to be licensed. Applications will close in July. It is truly an amazing and moving ministry to witness. \nWalk the Via Dolorosa — The Way of Tears: The Rev. Dr. Caroline Hall will present the unique and wonderful Stations of the Cross at Saint Benedict’s in Los Osos\, CA in the Diocese of El Camino Real. The Via Dolorosa is a processional route in the Old City of Jerusalem. We will follow the story of Jesus’ journey to the cross and beyond. The Stations of the Cross were made by a local artist. \n
