The opportunity to rest and play with colleagues from across the diocese can be helpful to both longstanding and emerging ministries. Areas of focus for this year’s retreat are below. \nRegister \nMINISTRY FOCUS \nFaith Development in Community \nGod calls people in all stages of faith development into the life of our congregations. A healthy congregation recognizes that God is at work in all stages of faith development and cultivates opportunities for each person to move deeper in their discipleship journey. \nTogether we will analyze our unique congregations and ministries to think and reflect on how God is calling us: \n\nTo welcome people where they are\, and\, when they are ready\, invite them to go deeper in their life of faith\nTo create specific pathways between and among people at different stages of their faith\nTo nurture the most mature Christians in the congregation\, honoring that their energy is often the spiritual heart of the congregation\n\n  \nMINISTRY WORK \nKnowing Yourself – Ministry from a Place of Self Awareness \n“The purposes in the human heart are deep waters; but the one who has insight draws them out.” Proverbs 20:5 \nAs followers of Jesus who are also formed in and by the world\, each of us ministers from a “social location.” This means that each of us sees and understands God and the world through a lens shaped by our numerous identities\, such as ethnicity\, age\, immigration status\, education\, class\, gender\, and sexuality\, etc. Some of these identities we may be acutely aware of. Others may be less obvious to us. ALL aspects of our social location are useful to God. \n  \nKnowing Yourself makes space for folks to consider all these pieces of their identity in order to: \n\nname how they have been formed as bearers of God’s image\nconsider how their social location has equipped them for ministry\ncultivate self-awareness in community to practice nurturing authentic relationships across lines of difference.\n\nReinvented Advent – Walking with Mary \nAdvent can be one of the busiest times in a congregation’s life. Formation teams can often be filled with a longing to create a deeper connection for the community\, even while being spread thinly themselves. This session in the retreat will provide a simple and spiritually rich program that supports all ages of Faith Formation. February 21-23\n\nIn 2016 John Philip Newell began a teaching initiative of annual retreats to help reawaken awareness of the sacred in all things through the recovery of Celtic wisdom for today and to help translate this awareness into compassionate action in our lives and world. \nCeltic Wisdom 1 is the first of a three-part series of annual retreats led by the Celtic teacher John Philip Newell and his colleague Cami Twilling. In it\, we explore the sacredness of every human being\, the sacredness of the feminine\, and the sacredness of Earth. \nThe teachings of this retreat are based on John Philip’s award-winning book Sacred Earth Sacred Soul: Celtic Wisdom for Reawakening to What Our Souls Know and Healing the World (especially Chapters 1\, 2\, and 7 drawing on the wisdom of Pelagius\, Brigid\, and Teilhard de Chardin). \nJohn Philip Newell’s Sacred Earth Sacred Soul is the essential text for the three-year Celtic Wisdom program. Tend the sick\, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary\, bless\nthe dying\, soothe the suffering\, pity the afflicted\, shield the\njoyous; and all for your love’s sake. These dimensions are interconnected—each one affects the other. We are not compartmentalized people. The different parts of our lives are intricately woven together. Whatever impacts one dimension of our lives (positively or negatively) has an impact upon the other dimensions—the waves of change in one area of our lives invariably washes upon the shores of the other areas. \nThis session will include the opportunity to look with care at eight areas of our lives: Spirituality\, Rest & Play\, Emotions\, Relationships\, Care for the Body\, Stress Resilience\, Vocation\, and Organization. Camp Stevens is celebrating 70 years of impact and growth while looking toward the future! \nWe will learn\, listen\, love\, and start the process of healing across faiths\, generations\, identities\, cultures\, and beyond. Participants of all ages can choose from a variety of experiences from workshops and small group conversations to creative activities and personal reflection. \nJoin us for the whole weekend or come up for the day on Saturday for workshops\, fellowship\, meals\, and our keynote speaker. Childcare for 0-5 as well as children and youth programs will be provided. \nWho is Valarie Kaur?\nValarie Kaur is a renowned civil rights leader\, lawyer\, award-winning filmmaker\, educator\, innovator\, and best-selling author of See No Stranger. She leads the Revolutionary Love Project to reclaim love as a force for justice. Valarie Kaur will give her keynote address at 3:30pm on Saturday\, October 29.  Read See No Stranger on your own or join a Camp Stevens book club!
