Refugee Network’s Amazing Journey: Gala on Board the USS Berkeley

Over 100,000 refugees have made the amazing journey from war, terror, persecution or slavery to UN refugee camps where they were placed on a priority list, screened and accepted by the U.S. government and finally sent to San Diego. Happy to be free and safe, they must begin a new journey, requiring courage and tenacity to become productive citizens in their adopted country. With God’s help, members of this diocese help them. On May 11, Episcopalians came from churches throughout San Diego to support the work of the Episcopal Refugee Network on board The USS Berkeley in the San Diego Bay. They enjoyed dancing, music, food, drink, silent and live auctions and getting to know some of the people they support. Currently the network helps clients from Myanmar (Burma), Darfur, South Sudan, Bhutan and Iraq. The Network provides food, tutors school children, negotiates through government processes, doctor’s appointments and school enrollment requirements, and much more. Please, add us to your prayer list and next year, join us!

The gala will be on May 3, 2014 on board The Berkeley. +
