Interfaith Events at PRIDE

Several congregations in our diocese have born witness to God’s fearless love by marching in the San Diego Gay Pride parade. This year, we hope to deepen that diocesan tradition. Our current political climate has drawn special attention from Pride organizers to rally attention from religious supporters of love, equality and tolerance. It is more important than ever that we put a face to religious tolerance, hope and love. Join us!

We hope to have a joyful pride for our diocesan presence this year. Contact the Rev. Jeff Martinhauk if you would like to RSVP for the event or for more information.

Clergy members in particular have several opportunities this year that are new. Pride is emphasizing interfaith clergy participation in these three ways.

  • The Equality March on June 11, a companion march to others around the country to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ community for equality (not just for clergy).
  • The Pride Interfaith Service at the Cathedral on July 12. This year we will light up the Cathedral for Pride, but also pay tribute to the three organizations that started the first march in San Diego in the 70s: the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC), the Imperial Court, and Dignity; with special guest Troy Perry, founder of MCC.
  • The Pride Parade’s honorary Interfaith delegation: “Pride with Prayer, Pride with Purpose.” An interfaith group of clergy will lead the parade this year, showing that the religious community supports the LGBTQ community especially in this time when religious is being used as a license to discriminate. (Shuttles will be available to bring you back to your congregations at the end of the parade route.)
