Farewell Initiative

mathes 2014 sm

After 12 years of leadership, Bishop Mathes begins his new role as associate dean of Virginia Theological Seminary this August.

While Jim and Terri have insisted on no tangible gifts, you may give an offering of thanks to the Farewell Initiative. This is an effort to honor our bishop as he departs the diocese by contributing to the funds that have characterized the most passionate parts of his episcopacy. Terri Mathes, his wife, has contributed every bit as much through her leadership at Vida Joven, with her stewardship guidance for congregations and her fundraising expertise throughout the church. We will greatly miss Jim, Terri and their faithful canine companion, Hawkeye.

The Farewell Initiative is one way to say “Thank You”and “Farewell” to Bishop Mathes, his wife, Terri, and their black lab, Hawkeye.

The Clergy Mentorship Fund will establish important mentoring relationships for new clergy members.

Vida Joven is a foster home for prisoners’ children in Tijuana where Terri has been an active and outspoken leader.

The North Park Project is an innovative ministry endeavor at St. Luke’s, a multicultural center in a bustling millennial neighborhood.

Thank you for helping to wish our bishop and his family a grateful farewell.
