SUMMARY:Lay Catechist Training 2025-2026
DESCRIPTION:A Catechist is a lay person authorized to prepare persons for Baptism\, Confirmation\, Reception\, and the Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows. They function under the direction of the Member of the Clergy or other leader exercising oversight of the congregation or other community of faith. Their work is deeply important in expanding discipleship within a congregation. \nThe course is designed to not just cover faith formation for children\, youth\, and adults\, but also invites participants to consider\, “What does it look like to offer congregational formation?” Throughout the course we will evaluate and adapt curriculum that is already available to meet their contexts. By course end\, each participant will have designed a program that they will offer to the congregation in the year ahead. \nEach meeting will be held at 6:00 PM on the 4th Monday of the month on Zoom. Below are the dates and subjects for each class. Applicants must attend all six sessions and complete a project to be licensed. Applications will close July 18\, 2025. The six sessions include: \n\nAugust 25\, 2025\, 6:00 PM – Faith Formation for Children & Youth\nSeptember 22\, 2025\, 6:00 PM – Faith Formation with Adults\nOctober 27\, 2025\, 6:00 PM – Formation in Congregational Life\nNovember 24\, 2025\, 6:00 PM – Curriculum Review and Development\nJanuary 26\, 2026\, 6:00 PM – Baptism and Confirmation\nFebruary  23\, 2026\, 6:00 PM – Project Review and Presentation\n\nIn addition to registering for the course\, applicants also need a Lay License Nomination form completed by the priest in charge at their congregation. Makeup sessions available\, if needed.\nOther requirements: Weekly reading and discussion questions\, one field trip\, and two journal prompts to be completed with the home congregation.\nCost: $30 This covers the cost of the book\, journal\, and a field trip! DESCRIPTION:As anti-feminist White Christian Nationalists attempt to roll back the progress the women’s liberation movement has made here in the United States\, what can women and their allies learn from the theocratic takeover of Muslim countries like Afghanistan\, Saudi Arabia\, and Iran? \nJoin us at 7pm on the second Friday of each month for these free\, public screenings\, followed by discussion. All are welcome. \nThis month we will screen the animated adaptation of a critically acclaimed biographical graphic novel about a young woman coming of age during the Islamic Revolution in Iran. The weighty conversation over balancing the need for mission aligned rentals with ensuring that the church has appropriate use of space to support ministry will be the second workshop. \nBeginning the day with shared worship in the beautiful Sanctuary at Good Samaritan\, we will root ourselves in prayer and prepare for a day of learning. Throughout the day\, there will be opportunities to connect with friends and colleagues from across the diocese\, deepening the relationships that support our shared ministry. DESCRIPTION:Join us on National Good Neighbor Day (Sunday\, September 28) for our bi-monthly neighborhood swap! \nShare Fair Holiday Edition\n️Date: Sunday\, Sept 28\nTime: 1-3 pm\nLocation: Resurrection Episcopal Church in Ocean Beach \nThis month is a very special Holiday Edition\, so bring your Halloween costumes\, festive decorations\, party dresses\, ugly sweaters\, and whatever else you’d like to share with neighbors. Come by between 1-3 pm; no need to register\, and no obligation to bring or take anything! \nYou can also bring thoughtful regifts (new/unused) for our upcoming Joy Drive. At the end of the day\, any remaining items will be saved for our holiday recipients to “shop” from\, extending the impact even further. It’s a simple\, joyful way to refresh your wardrobe\, get ready for the holidays\, and connect with neighbors. \nVolunteers are needed to help set up and tear down – contact stasi@resurrectionob.org to sign up! \nOB’s Share Fair Swaps are a beautiful display of generosity and community spirit. Come together to give and receive\, helping ensure that gently used items find new homes with those who need them.
