DESCRIPTION:Sacred Ground is a film-and-readings-based dialogue series on race\, grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of our country’s history of race and racism\, while weaving in threads of personal stories\, socio-economic class\, and regional identity. Part of Becoming Beloved Community — The Episcopal Church’s long-term commitment to racial healing\, reconciliation\, and justice in our personal lives\, our ministry context\, and our society — the series is built around an online-accessible curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on Indigenous\, Black\, Latino\, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories. \nThe series is open to anyone with an interest in learning and discussing challenging issues in a safe space. The discussion groups (referred to as “circles”) provide the opportunity for difficult but respectful and transformative dialogue. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call for faith\, hope\, mutual respect\, and love. \nFind out more about what the Sacred Ground Series is all about\, preview content\, meet circle facilitators\, and ask questions at the October 1 info session. This is an opportunity for clergy and lay leaders to support the mission of the church by deepening their understanding of the infrastructure that supports it. There are two tracks being offered that day – Finance & Property. Finance begins with a conversation about Stewardship before transitioning to the important work of ensuring that your congregation’s culture aligns with the mission of the church. In the Property track\, we will dive into the property basics\, tackling regular and deferred maintenance\, seasonal checklists\, and best practices on issuing keys. The weighty conversation over balancing the need for mission aligned rentals with ensuring that the church has appropriate use of space to support ministry will be the second workshop. \nBeginning the day with shared worship in the beautiful Sanctuary at Good Samaritan\, we will root ourselves in prayer and prepare for a day of learning. Throughout the day\, there will be opportunities to connect with friends and colleagues from across the diocese\, deepening the relationships that support our shared ministry. We will close with a time of reflection\, centering God in all that we do and marking our commitment to serve with courage and love. \nGovernance – Finance – Property offers the chance to equip your congregation’s leadership team for ministry in your context. \nWe hope you will join us for this day of learning in community. SUMMARY:Cinema of Resistance: Feminism vs. Fundamentalism
DESCRIPTION:As anti-feminist White Christian Nationalists attempt to roll back the progress the women’s liberation movement has made here in the United States\, what can women and their allies learn from the theocratic takeover of Muslim countries like Afghanistan\, Saudi Arabia\, and Iran? \nJoin us at 7pm on the second Friday of each month for these free\, public screenings\, followed by discussion. All are welcome. \nThis month we will screen the animated adaptation of a critically acclaimed biographical graphic novel about a young woman coming of age during the Islamic Revolution in Iran. DESCRIPTION:This Fall\, the Diocese will be offering a youth collaborative confirmation program. Classes will be held both in person and online to help with flexibility\, increase engagement\, and create peer connection from youth all over the diocese together. Classes will be led by Leighton Jones in partnership with other diocesan youth leaders\, lay ministers\, and clergy. \n\nWho: Youth in grades 8-12\nWhat: A hybrid confirmation program using My Faith\, My Life\nWhere: Meetings will be in-person and on Zoom\, ensuring that we build connections while allowing flexibility for students.\nWhen: 8 sessions beginning with an in-person gathering & parent meeting on September 7th. Makeup sessions available\, if needed.\nOther requirements: Weekly reading and discussion questions\, one field trip\, and two journal prompts to be completed with the home congregation.\nCost: $30 This covers the cost of the book\, journal\, and a field trip! DESCRIPTION:August 7\, 8\, 9\, 2025\nSt. James by the Sea\nCost: $100 EDSD / $355 outside of EDSD \nIf you have been seeking a circle of practitioners with whom you might deepen your Godly Play practice\, tend to your own spiritual life\, and find fresh ways to kindle Godly Play in your context\, welcome! Designed for Godly Players with a minimum of one completed Core Training\, and three years of Godly Play experience “under their belt\,” this 3-day retreat may be just what you have been hoping for. Certified Godly Play Trainers Jana Sundin and Charlette Preslar will guide this circle and encourage discovery learning through story\, preparatory reading\, small group dialogue\, and playful wonder. Whether you are an engaged volunteer\, a guiding clergyperson\, or a program leader\, you will leave renewed and able to draw on your deeper understanding of Godly Play to benefit your Godly Play circle and beyond. \nPrerequisites: \n\n3 years of Godly Play practice with a working knowledge of the core stories and the spiral curriculum.\nPrevious completion of one Godly Play Core training with a licensed trainer.\nEngage with two guiding texts (Teaching Godly Play by Jerome Berryman and Godly Play in Middle and Late Childhood by Cheryl Minor) as well as other pertinent writings.\nComplete the case study which will be emailed to you before July 10.\n\nThe training will take place over three days:\nAugust 7 – 3:00 – 9:00 PM\nAugust 8 – 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM\nAugust 9 – 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM \nAdvanced Training is a first-time offering for our diocese.
