SUMMARY:Season of Creation 2022
DESCRIPTION:I have heard their cry. I know their sufferings. Come\, now! I will send you. I will be with you.\nExodus 3: 1-12 \nThe burning bush is the symbol for the Season of Creation 2022. Today\, Creation cries out as forests crackle\, animals flee\, and people are forced to migrate due to the fires of injustice. In contrast\, the fire that called to Moses as he tended the flock on Mt. Horeb did not consume or destroy the bush. This flame of the Spirit revealed God’s presence. This holy fire affirmed that God heard the cries of all who suffered\, and promised to be with us as we followed in faith to our deliverance from injustice. \nA Word from the General Convention in 2022 \nThe 80th General Convention of the Episcopal Church recognized climate change as “an all-encompassing social crisis and moral emergency that impacts and interconnects every aspect of pastoral concern including health\, poverty\, employment\, racism\, social justice\, and family life and that can only be addressed by a Great Work involving every sector of society\, including the Church.”  \nFrom “Our Mission > Creation Care” diomass.org/creation-care \n— \nThis year in solidarity with faith communities across the globe\, the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego Creation Care Task Force celebrates another Season of Creation. Several congregations will hold services and participate in Interfaith Season of Creation service.  Please share your church’s activities to provide others with ideas for recognizing this time for prayer\, education\, healing\, and action. SUMMARY:The Creation Care Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin
DESCRIPTION:“This fragile earth\, our island home.”\nJoin us each Wednesday in September from 6:30 – 8:00 PM\nSeptember 7th\n“Inspiring Climate Action”\n(video presentation by Dr. Katharine Hayhoe)\nPresenter: Kim Leslie\nThis session opens with a March 2022 keynote address by Climate Scientist Dr. Katharine Hayhoe. Our discussion will include Katharine’s suggestions for what churches can do to reduce their carbon footprint\, as well as resource suggestions from the Creation Care Commission.\n(DioSanJoaquin.org/creationcare) \nSeptember 14th\n“Don’t Poison the Well”\nPresenters: Deacon Teri Van Huss\, Chuck Schaeffer\nWater conservation includes using less water\, as well as what we put into the water as it goes down the drain\, into the earth and our groundwater. We will discuss how to create chemical-free homes\, ways to use grey water\, and give an update on California’s efforts to regulate groundwater. \nSeptember 21th\n“Plastic pollution is worse than you think”\nPresenters: Presenters: Beryl Simkins\, Suzanne Harvey\nCalifornia just took a big step in leading the push to lessen the impact of plastics on people and the environment. Most of us know that plastic\, especially singe-use plastic is a problem; unfortunately\, recycling does little to reduce plastic pollution. \nSeptember 28th\n“Cover the Ground” & “Talking about Climate Change”\nPresenters: Xan Adams\, Deacon Teri Van Huss\nBare earth is naked\, hungry\, and running a fever. Mulches and compost create healthy soil and provide cover (shade) to keep water from evaporating quickly. We need to replace luscious green water soaked lawns in ways that are beautiful and still keep the ground covered. \nZoom Info Here \nClick HERE to download this flyer. \n

SUMMARY:UBE Sunday and the Feast of Alexander Crummell
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate UBE Sunday and the Feast of Alexander Crummell – Sunday\, September 11\, 2022\nAlmighty and everlasting God\, we thank you for your servant Alexander Crummell\, whom you called to preach the Gospel to those who were far off and to those who were near. Raise up in this and every land evangelists and heralds of your kingdom\, that your Church may proclaim the unsearchable riches of our Savior Jesus Christ\, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, now and for ever. Amen. \nOn Sunday\, September 11\, the Union of Black Episcopalians celebrates the life and legacy of our notable saint\, the Reverend Alexander Crummell\, whose official feast day is September 10th. Crummell was the personification of the will to overcome during the 19th century\, successfully confronting and prevailing over barriers erected because of his race. According to A Great Cloud of Witnesses\, “Crummell’s ministry spanned more than half a century and three continents. Everywhere\, at all times\, he labored to prepare black people and to build institutions that would serve them and provide scope for the exercise of their gifts in leadership and creativity. His faith in God\, his perseverance in spite of repeated discouragement\, his perception that the Church transcended the racism and limited vision of its leaders\, and his unfailing belief in the goodness and greatness of black people are the legacy of this African American pioneer. He died in Red Bank\, New Jersey\, in 1898.” \nUBE designates September 11 as UBE Sunday to commemorate the racial justice ministry of the Union which was an outgrowth of Father Crummell’s advocacy. \nPlease join us by using these following liturgical resources in your bulletin on September 11 or any other Sunday that you are reflecting on racial reconciliation. Then\, make a special donation to UBE by visiting our website at www.ube.org. We are continuing Crummell’s work of overcoming racism in society and in the church. Thank you in advance for your generosity. \nTo read more or access resources\, click the links below:\nBulletin insert – Alexander Crummell – half page (2022)\nBulletin insert – Alexander Crummell – full page (2022)\nLitany for the Feast of Alexander Crummell and UBE Sunday\nLessons Appointed for Use on the Feast of Alexander Crummell \n***Don’t forget to subscribe to the UBE YouTube Channel. *** \nwww.ube.org \n  \n

SUMMARY:Cursillo Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Have you considered attending a Cursillo weekend? \nCursillo is a Christian Spiritual Renewal Program that began in Spain in 1949. Cursillo means “short course” and Cursillo is a short course in Christianity. Cursillo focuses on helping lay people become better followers of Jesus by giving us tools to live out our life for Christ in the everyday world. \nOn the weekend you will learn about the three basic methods of Cursillo: Piety (worship and prayer)\, Study (Bible and spiritual books)\, and Action (how to do ministry). All three of these methods work together to help a person live out a real life of following Jesus\, both in the church and in the world. \nOn the Cursillo weekend there are talks\, small group discussions and singing. Most of the talks are given by lay people while the clergy lead meditations and celebrate the Eucharist. The weekends are full of both learning new things and most importantly\, spiritual discovery and growth. Each person is allowed freedom to discover and develop in their own way. \nThe next Cursillo weekend will be October 27th through the 30th at the Pine Valley Bible Conference Center. Yes\, it really does begin on Thursday evening\, the 27th. Are you ready to move forward on your walk with Jesus in faith and love? If your answer is yes\, you’ll be in good company. For more information about Cursillo and the Cursillo Weekend\, please visit our website at www.sdcursillo.org\, or talk to your Parish Cursillo Representative.
