SUMMARY:PRIDE Parade
DESCRIPTION:Join churches throughout the diocese on July 15 at the San Diego Pride Parade! All are welcome to walk the parade route with St. Paul’s Cathedral contingent. Parade walkers need to be at the Cathedral in the 6th Ave Courtyard by 9:00 am. The Parade starts at 10:00 am. The group will gather at the Cathedral and then walk up to the staging area on Normal Street\, which takes about 20 mins. \nYou will be joining over 300\,000 parade goers for some sun\, a 1.5-mile walk\, waving flags\, lively music\, and a wonderful community. \nParking will be available at the Cathedral (525 Olive)\, and at St. Paul’s Senior Services at 3rd and Maple. \nNo banners are allowed\, only flags and streamers. \nBe advised: Driving and looking for parking near the staging area (within a couple of miles) is very difficult and almost impossible. So\, Uber or have someone drop you off\, but do not try to find parking anywhere in Hillcrest that morning. Wear sunscreen\, comfy shoes\, we will have water on the trolley.  The parade staging area is at the DMV on Normal Street. \nThere is limited space on the trolley for those who are walking impaired. SUMMARY:Godly Play Training Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego is pleased to offer a Godly Play Core Training Retreat on August 11-13\, 2023. Summer is the perfect time to plan and prepare to welcome families in the Fall. This retreat will allow congregations the opportunity to refresh their training and to bring new storytellers and door holders into the fold.  \nOver the course of the retreat\, participants will experience all aspects of the Godly Play method and begin to become fluent in the Godly Play core stories and fundamental practices. Additionally\, Godly Play’s guiding Theology of Childhood is introduced\, so participants become more deeply connected to their work. The circle of participants becomes very strong and trustworthy when this work is done in the closed environment of a several-day retreat\, and participants enjoy spiritual renewal and lasting friendships. Last year’s training had participants from across the diocese. This year\, we are hoping to increase the participants and the connections that come from doing this deep work together. Godly Play Core Training is $75 for members of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego\, and $355 for those outside of our diocese. \n\nSpace is limited. We are already experiencing extreme heat\, wildfires\, floods\, hurricanes and rising ocean temperatures. This one-day workshop will lift the voices of our community to discuss how we can come together and address and support each other in times of climate upheaval and trauma in order to find tools and strength. \nWorkshop Schedule\n8:30am: Registration & Welcome\n9:00am: Dr. Christine James: San Diego wildfires and associated trauma and mental health\n10:00am: James Baraz: Buddhist teacher and speaker on addressing climate trauma in our communities and author of “Awakening Joy”\n11:00am: Community Presenters:\n+Rachel Ambasing (EDSD Missioner for Multicultural Ministries & Growing Trees in Community Project Coordinator) on experiences/impact on marginalized communities.\n+Dr. Brenda Velasquez (Physician\, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist\, Asst.
