SUMMARY:Student Music Scholarship Concert
DESCRIPTION:For over a dozen years\, Trinity Church has hosted a benefit concert to support the American Guild of Organists Student Scholarship Fund. The concert donations help students\, young and old\, learn to play the “King of Instruments” and encourage them to consider becoming involved in church music. Auditions are held each May with the winners receiving receiving funds to help with music lessons. This is more important now than ever before as there are very few organists available to supply music for worship. \nThis year’s program will be “An Organ and Choir Exposition”…meaning that it will be both entertaining and educational. The organists will be performing works from Bach to the Beatles and from Durufle to Danny Boy\, with brief comments on how the composers actually use the organ. We hope to inspire interest in both the music and the King of Instruments. Organists performing include Michael Munson\, Howard McCullough\, Carol Graham\, Henry Doktorski\, Ronel Wishnuff and David Lewis. The 50 voice San Luis Rey Chorale will perform a section of the concert showcasing the many\, varied ways that the organ has been used as accompaniment. Choral works by Mendelssohn\, Durufle and Handel will be presented. Students will be invited to sit beside the organ console to have an “up close and personal” experience. The entire audience will be invited to sing along for the Hallelujah Chorus for a grand finale. Coffee and cookies will follow.\nThe suggested donation is just $10.00 at the door. DESCRIPTION:LARK (Localized Anti-Racism Knowledge) began as a challenge from Bishop Susan Brown Snook. In February 2022 she asked the Racial Justice and Reconciliation Task Force (RJRTF) to develop a localized anti-racism workshop. Since anti-racism trainings are usually designed in other regions of the country\, they reflect their populations and histories. Our area has its own history\, issues\, and stories. LARK focuses on our local history and populations and deals with local issues and stories. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of the local context in which we minister\, and begin to nurture the relationships and resilience necessary for advancing racial reconciliation and justice within our diocese. \nThe LARK workshop consists of the following major components: \n\nTruth telling of the local history of People of Color by way of an overview of the major racial/ethnic groups in our diocesan region.\nCase study of multi-faceted local issues by way of videos and discussion.\nIn-depth analysis and discussion of articles & videos regarding various local ongoing instances of racism.\nCommitment to engagement: Personal Plan of Action for each participant\, i.e.\, a commitment to specific follow-up actions and the choosing of a small group team for accountability.\nZoom meeting* to be scheduled approximately 4 weeks after the in-person workshop. The date and time will be announced closer to the workshop date. At this meeting\, participants will:\n\nreflect on their learning\nreport on any post-workshop activity\nfind next steps for their continued journey\n*Participants who are unable to attend this meeting can be given an alternate way of fulfilling this requirement upon request.\n\n\n\nThe purpose of this workshop is not simply to transmit information\, but to engage participants in a collective process of discovery. The progression of the workshop is scaffolded\, with the earlier activities creating a foundation for the later experiences. Full participation from beginning to end is assumed. \nParticipants must complete all components in order to become a LARK alumnus and fulfill diocesan anti-racism training requirements. \nLARK is one part of a lifelong journey for racial reconciliation and racial justice. Whether you are a novice or veteran in the areas of racial justice and reconciliation\, whether you are a Sacred Ground alum\, current Sacred Ground participant\, or have never even heard of Sacred Ground\, this LARK workshop is for you! DESCRIPTION:Knowing Yourself: Ministry from a place of self-awareness – \n“The purposes in the human heart are deep waters; but the one who has insight draws them out.” Proverbs 20:5 \nAs followers of Jesus who are also formed in and by the world\, each of us ministers from a “social location.” This means that each of us see and understand God and the world through a lens shaped by our numerous identities such as ethnicity\, age\, immigration status\, education\, class\, gender and sexuality\, etc. Some of these identities we may be acutely aware of. Others may be less obvious to us. ALL aspects of our social location are useful to God. \nKnowing Yourself makes space for folks to consider all these pieces of their identity in order to:\n• name how they have been formed as bearers of God’s image\n• consider how their social location has equipped them for ministry\n• cultivate self-awareness in community to practice nurturing authentic relationships across lines of difference.\nWe hope you’ll join us for an afternoon of self-reflection and story-sharing. \nNames of facilitators will be available closer to the workshop.\nRegistration is open to a maximum of 30 people and will close promptly on April 27\, 2025 at 9 PM\, or when it is full.\n*This training fulfills one of the requirements for lay licensing. \nRegister HERE\n
