DESCRIPTION:The Second North County Monarch Butterfly Festival will feature butterfly-inspired art & crafts\, native plants\, expert speakers & much more! \nThe fate of the iconic Western monarch butterfly is tied inextricably to the health of the planet\, and that means our fate as human beings is governed by the same forces that affect the monarchs. Simply put\, if the monarch butterflies thrive\, so do we\, along with all of the other inhabitants of the monarch universe; conversely\, if the monarchs can’t thrive in this universe\, then human beings can’t either. Our main sponsor\, the San Marcos lions club\, is actively involved in the causes supported by Lions Clubs International\, including free vision screening and sustainably protecting and restoring our environment to improve the well-being of all communities. \nThis event\, like last year’s premier\, will feature free vision screening as well as many aspects of the monarch universe\, from monarch-inspired arts and crafts to jewelry\, clothing\, biology\, pollinator gardening\, milkweed and nectar plant propagation and cultivating; from discussions and presentations on a wide range of subjects\, including conservation and butterfly migration\, to habitat restoration and creation; from talks on diseases and predators to gardening with native plants; from children’s activities to seed exchange. DESCRIPTION:This year\, we are excited to offer Towards A Fuller Gospel: Scripture Through the Lens of Asian American Theologians\, a four-week series of virtual gatherings centered around the study of writings by Asian American theologians. This offering is made possible by the SD API Empowerment Grant awarded by the San Diego Asian Pacific Islander Coalition. Towards A Fuller Gospel will take place Thursday nights at 6 PM on Zoom\, beginning May 25 through June 15. Sessions will last an hour. \nDuring these four weeks\, participants will:\n• Engage with the work of Asian American theologians such as Gale A. Yee\, Chung Hyun Kyung and Joyce Del Rosario.\n• Explore scriptural interpretations on topics including identity\, leadership\, community care\, and the language we use to talk about Jesus.\n• Lean in to the sacredness of their own voices and stories as they share their reflections and own personal stories in affirming\, small-group settings. \nTowards a Fuller Gospel has now begun and registration is closed. For consideration as a late add\, please contact series facilitator Rachel Ambasing at rambasing@edsd.org.

World Refugee Day (June 20\, 2023) is a perfect time to seek out new opportunities to serve those far from the land they call home and cherished by God. As part of the Year of Service\, partner with your congregation and engage in a service activity related to care for migrants and refugees.  Scripture speaks to God’s affection for—and how God’s people are to care for—refugees and immigrants (often referred to as “strangers” in the Bible) over 50 times. Due to our proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border and the many services provided in metro San Diego\, our diocese has a significant number of refugees and immigrants from Latin America as well as from around the globe. This is a great opportunity to be the church outside your church walls\, to connect with your neighbors in service! DESCRIPTION:Join churches throughout the diocese on July 15 at the San Diego Pride Parade! All are welcome to walk the parade route with St. Paul’s Cathedral contingent. Parade walkers need to be at the Cathedral in the 6th Ave Courtyard by 9:00 am. The Parade starts at 10:00 am. The group will gather at the Cathedral and then walk up to the staging area on Normal Street\, which takes about 20 mins. \nYou will be joining over 300\,000 parade goers for some sun\, a 1.5-mile walk\, waving flags\, lively music\, and a wonderful community. \nParking will be available at the Cathedral (525 Olive)\, and at St. Paul’s Senior Services at 3rd and Maple. \nNo banners are allowed\, only flags and streamers. \nBe advised: Driving and looking for parking near the staging area (within a couple of miles) is very difficult and almost impossible. So\, Uber or have someone drop you off\, but do not try to find parking anywhere in Hillcrest that morning. Wear sunscreen\, comfy shoes\, we will have water on the trolley.  The parade staging area is at the DMV on Normal Street. \nThere is limited space on the trolley for those who are walking impaired. We will have temporary tattoos\, You are LOVED stickers\, and lollipops for students to hand out. Youth should wear their rainbow finest and either a youth ministry t-shirt or a t-shirt from your parish. Youth will need transportation to and from this event but can walk with the group during the parade if the parent is not attending. \n\nWaivers can be found through this link. Make a copy of the waiver to update it with the name of your congregation. \nYouth not attending with a parent must bring a waiver to the event. They can give it to their youth leader upon arrival.\nYouth attending with a parent: the parent is responsible for their participation in the event.\nI will send out the location of the staging area as soon as we receive it from the parade organizers.\n\n  \n
