DESCRIPTION:Youth at Pride – July 15 – 10am-1pm  – We will meet at the St. Paul’s parade staging area (tbd) to be a visible presence of God’s love during the San Diego Pride Parade. We will have temporary tattoos\, You are LOVED stickers\, and lollipops for students to hand out. Youth should wear their rainbow finest and either a youth ministry t-shirt or a t-shirt from your parish. Youth will need transportation to and from this event but can walk with the group during the parade if the parent is not attending. \n\nWaivers can be found through this link. Make a copy of the waiver to update it with the name of your congregation. \nYouth not attending with a parent must bring a waiver to the event. They can give it to their youth leader upon arrival.\nYouth attending with a parent: the parent is responsible for their participation in the event.\nI will send out the location of the staging area as soon as we receive it from the parade organizers.\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Godly Play Training Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego is pleased to offer a Godly Play Core Training Retreat on August 11-13\, 2023. Summer is the perfect time to plan and prepare to welcome families in the Fall. This retreat will allow congregations the opportunity to refresh their training and to bring new storytellers and door holders into the fold.  \nOver the course of the retreat\, participants will experience all aspects of the Godly Play method and begin to become fluent in the Godly Play core stories and fundamental practices. Additionally\, Godly Play’s guiding Theology of Childhood is introduced\, so participants become more deeply connected to their work. The circle of participants becomes very strong and trustworthy when this work is done in the closed environment of a several-day retreat\, and participants enjoy spiritual renewal and lasting friendships. Last year’s training had participants from across the diocese. This year\, we are hoping to increase the participants and the connections that come from doing this deep work together. Godly Play Core Training is $75 for members of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego\, and $355 for those outside of our diocese. \n\nSpace is limited. DESCRIPTION:The annual EDSD Lent youth retreat is going on a pilgrimage this year! Vans will load in various areas of San Diego on Saturday morning to begin the pilgrimage. The trip will include visits to St. Margaret’s\, and an overnight at St. John’s\, Indio. There will be a service project\, a hike\, deep spiritual reflection\, and so much more. Together we will explore the last piece of Micah 6:8\, considering how we are called to Walk Humbly with God. The Community of Light is a partnership between the two dioceses and will be a shelter for women and children building a life in Tijuana after being unable to cross into the United States of America. Youth on this trip will build relationships with the youth from Western Mexico\, learn about the culture in Mexico\, work on service projects for the shelter\, and deepen their faith through learning\, serving\, and worship.\n \nApplications are open through May 20\, 2024. There are 15 spots for this year’s trip. The cost of the trip is $500. If a student is selected for the delegation\, they will secure their spot by making a $50 deposit. We will fundraise in community to make the trip possible for every student who wants to go. Students who participate in the fundraisers are eligible for a share of the funds raised. In a world that focuses on the practices that start your day\, (Do you make your bed\, have coffee\, exercise?)\,this retreat provides the opportunity to consider the way we close each day with a deep exploration of one of the prayers from Compline. \nKeep watch\, dear Lord\, with those who work\, or watch\, or\nweep this night\, and give your angels charge over those who\nsleep. Tend the sick\, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary\, bless\nthe dying\, soothe the suffering\, pity the afflicted\, shield the\njoyous; and all for your love’s sake. The delegation is hosting its final fundraiser at St. Luke’s in North Park. The meal will be planned\, cooked\, and served by the youth in the delegation. The students will share details of the trip as well as their personal reasons for participating. The event will culminate with a commissioning service. DESCRIPTION:Youth Summer Service Trip to Quito Ecuador\nJune 18 – 25\, 2025\nHigh School Youth\nAges 15 – 18\n*Passport required \nThis summer a youth delegation from The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego will head to Quito\, Ecuador. While there\, they will learn about the culture of Ecuador as well as partner with El Salvador Episcopal Church in Ambato. While the scope of our work there will be determined closer to the event\, we will serve side by side with the people of that community. The end of our trip will include a visit to the museum of the equator\, time at El Refujio\, a visit to an artisan market\, and the opportunity to learn to make empanadas. \nOur guiding scripture for this transformational experience is John 15:5.\nI am the vine\, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit \nIt will shape the way we prepare for the trip\, journey to Ecuador\, partner with the people we meet\, and return home. \nDue to the nature of this trip\, membership in the delegation will be by application. There are 12 total spots available. Applications and nominations will be accepted through February 9\, 2025\nRequirements to apply:\n1. Youth completed application\n2. Youth leader/Rector completed nomination form\n3. $50 application fee (application fee will be returned if not selected) \nCost of the trip:\nWe estimate the total cost of the trip to be $2200. Of that cost\, Total cost of trip is $2200. That will be a shared cost between the youth participant\, their congregation\, and the diocese. \n\nYouth participant contribution: $1200\nCongregation contribution: $500\nDiocese contribution: $500\nFundraising will be planned after the delegation is selected. If we are unable to raise the full amount of the cost\, each delegation member will be responsible for the remaining balance.\nIf a participant withdraws after registration is completed\, they are responsible for all costs associated with their registration.
