SUMMARY:LARK Workshop - Oct 11-12\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:LARK (Localized Anti-Racism Knowledge) began as a challenge from Bishop Susan Brown Snook. In February 2022 she asked the Racial Justice and Reconciliation Task Force (RJRTF) to develop a localized anti-racism workshop. Since anti-racism trainings are usually designed in other regions of the country\, they reflect their populations and histories. Our area has its own history\, issues\, and stories. LARK focuses on our local history and populations and deals with local issues and stories. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of the local context in which we minister\, and begin to nurture the relationships and resilience necessary for advancing racial reconciliation and justice within our diocese. \nThe LARK workshop consists of the following major components: \n\nTruth telling of the local history of People of Color by way of an overview of the major racial/ethnic groups in our diocesan region.\nCase study of multi-faceted local issue by way of videos and discussion.\nIn-depth analysis and discussion of articles & videos regarding various local ongoing instances of racism.\nCommitment to engagement: Personal Plan of Action for each participant\, i.e.\, a commitment to specific follow-up actions and the choosing of a small group team for accountability.\nZoom meeting: The Zoom meeting is scheduled for Tuesday\, October 29 @ 6-7 pm.* At that meeting\, participants will:\n\nreflect on their learning\nreport on any post-workshop activity\nfind next steps for their continued journey\n\n\n\n*Participants who are unable to attend this meeting can be given an alternate way of fulfilling this requirement upon request. \nParticipants must complete all components in order to become a LARK alumnus and fulfill anti-racism requirements for certification purposes. \nLARK is one part of a lifelong journey for racial reconciliation and racial justice. Whether you are a novice or veteran in the areas of racial justice and reconciliation\, whether you are a Sacred Ground alum\, current Sacred Ground participant\, or have never even heard of Sacred Ground\, this LARK workshop is for you! All are encouraged to attend\, and all are welcome! \n\nNext offering: Friday\, Oct 11\, 4-9 PM & Saturday\, Oct 12\, 9:30-4:30 PM\, with a follow-up Zoom meeting on Tuesday\, Oct 29\, 6-7 PM\nWhere: Good Samaritan Episcopal Church\, 4321 Eastgate Mall\, San Diego\, CA 92121\nSign Up Deadline: Thursday Oct 3\, or when registration is full. The workshop is open to a maximum of 30 attendees.\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Formation Leadership Retreat Camp Stevens
DESCRIPTION:Formation leaders are invited to a weekend retreat at Camp Stevens. The opportunity to rest and play with colleagues from across the diocese can be helpful to both longstanding and emerging ministries. Areas of focus for this year’s retreat are below. \nMINISTRY FOCUS \nGather-Transform-Send \nThe unique purpose and work of a congregation is to gather those called by God into Christ’s body\, the Church – a community of transformation of mind\, heart\, and action – and to send these same people into the world both to be and to act as God’s loving and transforming presence. \nTogether we will analize our unique congregations and ministries to think about how people are gathered\, what are the places of transformation\, and how we can grow those\, and how we send people back into their lives – work\, school\, family\, community\, and beyond. \nSPIRITUAL RETREAT \nLiving Compass \nThe “Compass” for Living Compass points us toward the four dimensions of our being: Soul\, Heart\, Strength\, and Mind. These dimensions are interconnected—each one affects the other. We are not compartmentalized people. The different parts of our lives are intricately woven together. Whatever impacts one dimension of our lives (positively or negatively) has an impact upon the other dimensions—the waves of change in one area of our lives invariably washes upon the shores of the other areas. \nThis session will include the opportunity to look with care at eight areas of our lives: Spirituality\, Rest & Play\, Emotions\, Relationships\, Care for the Body\, Stress Resilience\, Vocation\, and Organization. We will look at these areas not with judgment but as we look at a garden – which areas are we watering and caring for right now\, and which would we like to spend more time caring for. \nMINISTRY WORK \nPolicies and Forms\nA full session devoted to a deep dive into the practical structures that allow ministries to thrive. \n\nreview model policies\ncreate needed forms and guidelines in community\nrevive best practices\n\nSmall Group Work & Planning Time \n\nReview We Believe\, the diocesan wide confirmation program and plan for the coming year\nAdult Formation that works – Bring a program from your congregation that has been successful for you\nBring a Godly Play story to practice with other practitioners. If you are Godly Play curious\, this is a great group to join too!\n\nSABBATH EXPLORATION \nNo visit to Camp Stevens would be complete without the opportunity to enjoy our diocesan camp. This sacred place is sure to restore your soul with joy and peace! \n\nHike to Upper Meadow\nlaugh with friends and colleagues\nsing around the fire\npray in the Camp Stevens chapel\nwalk the labyrinth\nPet a goat or a pig\nbreathe deeply\nRest and restore\n\nArrival:  3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Thursday\, October 24\nDeparture: 10:00 a.m. Saturday\, October 26th\nAccommodations: Bergstrom Lodge \nRetreat Cost: $225 \nRegistration Includes your accommodations\, 5 incredible Camp Stevens meals\, and a few special surprises. We have a total of 18 spaces available this year. Please register quickly to ensure your spot! \nRegister Here \nAny questions regarding this program should be directed to Charlette Preslar: cpreslar@edsd.org.
