SUMMARY:Season of Creation 2022
DESCRIPTION:I have heard their cry. I know their sufferings. Come\, now! I will send you. I will be with you.\nExodus 3: 1-12 \nThe burning bush is the symbol for the Season of Creation 2022. Today\, Creation cries out as forests crackle\, animals flee\, and people are forced to migrate due to the fires of injustice. In contrast\, the fire that called to Moses as he tended the flock on Mt. Horeb did not consume or destroy the bush. This flame of the Spirit revealed God’s presence. This holy fire affirmed that God heard the cries of all who suffered\, and promised to be with us as we followed in faith to our deliverance from injustice. \nA Word from the General Convention in 2022 \nThe 80th General Convention of the Episcopal Church recognized climate change as “an all-encompassing social crisis and moral emergency that impacts and interconnects every aspect of pastoral concern including health\, poverty\, employment\, racism\, social justice\, and family life and that can only be addressed by a Great Work involving every sector of society\, including the Church.”  \nFrom “Our Mission > Creation Care” diomass.org/creation-care \n— \nThis year in solidarity with faith communities across the globe\, the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego Creation Care Task Force celebrates another Season of Creation. Several congregations will hold services and participate in Interfaith Season of Creation service.  Please share your church’s activities to provide others with ideas for recognizing this time for prayer\, education\, healing\, and action. SUMMARY:The Creation Care Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin
DESCRIPTION:“This fragile earth\, our island home.”\nJoin us each Wednesday in September from 6:30 – 8:00 PM\nSeptember 7th\n“Inspiring Climate Action”\n(video presentation by Dr. Katharine Hayhoe)\nPresenter: Kim Leslie\nThis session opens with a March 2022 keynote address by Climate Scientist Dr. Katharine Hayhoe. Our discussion will include Katharine’s suggestions for what churches can do to reduce their carbon footprint\, as well as resource suggestions from the Creation Care Commission.\n(DioSanJoaquin.org/creationcare) \nSeptember 14th\n“Don’t Poison the Well”\nPresenters: Deacon Teri Van Huss\, Chuck Schaeffer\nWater conservation includes using less water\, as well as what we put into the water as it goes down the drain\, into the earth and our groundwater. We will discuss how to create chemical-free homes\, ways to use grey water\, and give an update on California’s efforts to regulate groundwater. \nSeptember 21th\n“Plastic pollution is worse than you think”\nPresenters: Presenters: Beryl Simkins\, Suzanne Harvey\nCalifornia just took a big step in leading the push to lessen the impact of plastics on people and the environment. Most of us know that plastic\, especially singe-use plastic is a problem; unfortunately\, recycling does little to reduce plastic pollution. \nSeptember 28th\n“Cover the Ground” & “Talking about Climate Change”\nPresenters: Xan Adams\, Deacon Teri Van Huss\nBare earth is naked\, hungry\, and running a fever. Mulches and compost create healthy soil and provide cover (shade) to keep water from evaporating quickly. We need to replace luscious green water soaked lawns in ways that are beautiful and still keep the ground covered. \nZoom Info Here \nClick HERE to download this flyer. \n

SUMMARY:BYOB-Bring Your Own Bowl - St. Barnabas Episcopal Church
DESCRIPTION:For several years now\, with a pause during the pandemic\, St. Barnabas parish has hosted a noontime half hour musical performance in its nave\, with homemade soup and bread\,. After Grace is said\, conversation and fellowship follow in the patio. This reach out to the entire Borrego community by the people of St. Barnabas takes place every Wednesday in February and March\, when many are visiting the desert for the sun\, hiking\, the desert bloom and much more. BYOB\, despite what it might bring to mind\, actually stands for “Bring Your Own Bowl.” Jan Naragon arranges the musicians\, Tom and Angela Cassidy handle the lunch logistics with other parishioners. \nThis year\, Steve Hunter and John Dickie\, on piano and mandolin and vocals lead off with some blues\, R&B and New Orleans jazz on 2/1. S. Barnabas’ organist Dr Charles von Gunten follows on 2/8 with 300 years of music in 30 minutes. Alan and Elaine Tulving are next on 2/15 with songs\, flute and guitar. Singer and songwriter Matt Bosson performs his own work and covers on Ash Wednesday\, 2/22. There will be ecumenical Ashes-to-Go at Christmas Circle from 11am to 1pm sponsored by the Borrego Ministers’ Association. 3/1 the Sentimental Journeys Trio offers a sing along of old favorites. Robin Young returns on 3/8 with her “Always Patsy Cline” retrospective. Violinist Beth Chafey-Hon presents her own work on 3/15. The Women’s Harmony Ensemble Vocal Motion entertains on 3/22. And the 20123 BYOB series concludes 3/29 with the Collegium Borregium trio of flute\, violin and keyboard performing trios by Bach and Handel. \n  \nThe BYOB converts and lunches gather people from all over Borrego\, a time of music and friendship. Come listen and slurp. Want more information? Contact Fr. Michael Plekon at (845) 380-6343 or mjplekon@aol.com.
