SUMMARY:Youth Epiphany Retreat - Keep Watch
DESCRIPTION:Who: Youth in grades 6-12\nWhere: Camp Stevens\nWhen: 1 p.m. February 15\, 2025 – 10 a.m. February 17\, 2025\nCost: $175\nRegistration opens October 22nd at 9 am \nCamp Steven’s is a favorite every program year – the outdoors\, the food\, the friends from around the diocese – it is a weekend filled with fun and faith. \nThis year’s theme will consider how we end our days. In a world that focuses on the practices that start your day\, (Do you make your bed\, have coffee\, exercise?)\,this retreat provides the opportunity to consider the way we close each day with a deep exploration of one of the prayers from Compline. \nKeep watch\, dear Lord\, with those who work\, or watch\, or\nweep this night\, and give your angels charge over those who\nsleep. Tend the sick\, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary\, bless\nthe dying\, soothe the suffering\, pity the afflicted\, shield the\njoyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen. \nA few of the things you can look forward to: Two nights’ accommodations at Camp Stevens\, five delicious Camp Stevens meals\, campfires\, games\, activities\, star gazing\, worship\, friends\, laughter and more!  \n* Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited. \nPayment is due at the time of registration. The full cost for each participant in this program is $225 per person. The Episcopal Diocese of San Diego has planned to cover $50 per student. We will realize that $175 per student may still be out of reach for some participants. Families are asked to prayerfully discern what they are able to contribute and indicate that amount in the payment field. If you would like to contribute above the $175 to assist other youth participants\, you may do that also. \nPlease contact Charlette Preslar\, cpreslar@edsd.org if you have questions. \nRegistration is closed for the Epiphany Retreat. We hope you will join us for NightWatch at All Souls on March 29th. Details and registration will be available soon.

SUMMARY:John Philip Newell Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Spend a weekend at Camp Stevens with John Philip Newell! February 21-23\n\nIn 2016 John Philip Newell began a teaching initiative of annual retreats to help reawaken awareness of the sacred in all things through the recovery of Celtic wisdom for today and to help translate this awareness into compassionate action in our lives and world. \nCeltic Wisdom 1 is the first of a three-part series of annual retreats led by the Celtic teacher John Philip Newell and his colleague Cami Twilling. In it\, we explore the sacredness of every human being\, the sacredness of the feminine\, and the sacredness of Earth. \nThe teachings of this retreat are based on John Philip’s award-winning book Sacred Earth Sacred Soul: Celtic Wisdom for Reawakening to What Our Souls Know and Healing the World (especially Chapters 1\, 2\, and 7 drawing on the wisdom of Pelagius\, Brigid\, and Teilhard de Chardin). \nJohn Philip Newell’s Sacred Earth Sacred Soul is the essential text for the three-year Celtic Wisdom program. The shared prayer book for this program is Sounds of the Eternal: A Celtic Psalter. \nCeltic Wisdom 1 can be taken as a stand-alone retreat or in conjunction with Celtic Wisdom 2 and Celtic Wisdom 3 which can be attended in any order and at any of our retreat centers nationwide or online. \nWe are partnering with our neighbors at Sacred Mountain Ranch (https://www.sacredmountainjulian.com/julian) to provide additional upscale accommodations. Choose the commuter rate and stay close by! Contact Sacred Mountain Ranch directly. Discounted options are available with code: b082132

SUMMARY:Leadership Academy 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join us on March 1 for Leadership Academy\, a day dedicated to learning\, growth\, and connection within our diocesan community. This is an opportunity for clergy and lay leaders—both new and experienced—to come together\, explore new ideas\, and develop skills for impactful ministry. One of the most remarkable blessings of our diocese is the depth of wisdom and talent within its leaders\, and Leadership Academy celebrates and builds upon that shared strength. \nBeginning the day with Holy Eucharist in the sanctuary of St Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in San Diego\, we will ground ourselves in worship and prepare for a day of learning. Throughout the day\, there will be opportunities to connect with friends and colleagues from across the diocese\, deepening the relationships that support our shared ministry. We will close with a time of reflection\, centering God in all that we do and marking our commitment to serve with courage and love. \nLeadership Academy offers the chance to choose\, à la carte\, from three tracks\, each designed to inspire and equip you for leadership in diverse contexts. \nSTORYTELLING \nCrafting Compelling Narratives for Ministry \nExplore how storytelling captures attention and keeps readers engaged. This session will demonstrate the power of weaving a consistent narrative layer into your long-form content to attract and retain a loyal readership. Learn practical techniques for making your writing more compelling and memorable. \nStories in Motion: Lessons from A Case for Love \nJoin Grace Based Films Director Brian Ide\, whose recent nationwide release A Case For Love has captivated audiences\, for an engaging session on video storytelling. Using excerpts from the film\, we’ll explore how to share impactful stories through video\, focusing on techniques that resonate and inspire. Whether you’re new to video or looking to enhance your skills\, this workshop will provide valuable insights into crafting authentic and compelling visual narratives. \nThe Art of Visual Storytelling \nDiscover the art of storytelling through photography. This session will explore how each photo tells a unique story\, covering photography basics and why photos look the way they do. Learn how to use images effectively to share the mission and vision of your church with authenticity and impact. \nWELCOME \nAccessibility in Action \nJoin the Accessibility Group from St. Dunstan’s as they share their journey toward creating an inclusive and welcoming campus. This session will explore their innovative efforts\, including a creative video\, assistance for people with hearing loss\, ramps and wheelchair-accessible seating\, large-print materials\, gluten-free communion options\, and a quiet room for sensory-sensitive individuals. Learn practical strategies and gain inspiration for making your church more accessible to all. \nRhythms of Grace – Worship that engages across the spectrum of neurodiversity \nJoin members from St. Brigid’s Oceanside will tell stories of their work embracing neurodiversity and promoting inclusion in their worship spaces.  \n“The Episcopal Church Welcomes You”: Becoming the Church We Say We Are \n“The Episcopal Church Welcomes You” is a slogan emblazoned on many of our congregational signs\, promotional materials\, and websites. This workshop features leaders from Uptown Community Services\, EDSD’s LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Taskforce\, and EDSD’s multicultural congregations. You are invited to this honest\, reflective and generative conversation on how we can better live into our declaration of Christ-like welcome. \nFOUNDATIONS \nSafe Church\, Safe Communities  \nThis session focuses on the Church’s responsibility to ensure safety\, integrity\, and trust within its community. Participants will receive training on ethical and theological expectations placed on church workers/volunteers\, the impact of misconduct\, and the Church’s commitment to creating spaces where individuals and families are secure and valued. Safe Church\, Safe Communities training is required for all volunteer and employment positions throughout the diocese. This training will take place over two workshop times. In order to complete all the necessary aspects of the training and receive a certificate\, you must attend both sessions. \nYouth Faith Formation – Beyond Grub and Games \nMembers of the EDSD Youth Leadership Council will hold this informative session addressing many of the questions we hear most often. What makes them feel included in church? What makes them feel left out? What do they value most in youth group? How do they serve at church? How would they like to? Come and hear directly from the council!

SUMMARY:Student Music Scholarship Concert
DESCRIPTION:For over a dozen years\, Trinity Church has hosted a benefit concert to support the American Guild of Organists Student Scholarship Fund. The concert donations help students\, young and old\, learn to play the “King of Instruments” and encourage them to consider becoming involved in church music. Auditions are held each May with the winners receiving receiving funds to help with music lessons. This is more important now than ever before as there are very few organists available to supply music for worship. \nThis year’s program will be “An Organ and Choir Exposition”…meaning that it will be both entertaining and educational. The organists will be performing works from Bach to the Beatles and from Durufle to Danny Boy\, with brief comments on how the composers actually use the organ. We hope to inspire interest in both the music and the King of Instruments. Organists performing include Michael Munson\, Howard McCullough\, Carol Graham\, Henry Doktorski\, Ronel Wishnuff and David Lewis. The 50 voice San Luis Rey Chorale will perform a section of the concert showcasing the many\, varied ways that the organ has been used as accompaniment. Choral works by Mendelssohn\, Durufle and Handel will be presented. Students will be invited to sit beside the organ console to have an “up close and personal” experience. The entire audience will be invited to sing along for the Hallelujah Chorus for a grand finale. Coffee and cookies will follow.\nThe suggested donation is just $10.00 at the door. No advance tickets needed. For more information call our organist\, David Lewis\, at 619-537-9040.  Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 845 Chestnut Street in Escondido.

SUMMARY:St. Andrew's Organ Dedication Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 4 pm on Sunday\, May 18th\, as St. Andrew’s dedicates our new Allan GX350 Organ with a free concert featuring internationally acclaimed organist\, Jonas Nordwall. \nOur Allen GX350 Organ was custom-designed to incorporate the 31-rank Simpson Pipes from the original organ in St. Andrew’s. In addition\, the GX350 adds 66 Digital Stops along with Allen Organ’s APEX floating point technology which is just a fancy way to say this organ is not only unique\, but also sounds amazing! \nThe concert features organist Jonas Nordwall\, an internationally renowned virtuoso organist equally skilled in both traditional classical and modern/popular schools of musical performance. He has performed in North America\, Japan\, Europe\, and China and has made eight concert tours to Australia. Nordwall is the only organist to play a public recital on the famous concert organ in Sydney’s Town Hall that was nationally broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Company. He has been an adjudicator and guest recitalist for the Swiss International Organ Competition in Geneva\, Switzerland. Nordwall has also performed numerous programs on the Spreckels organ in San Diego’s Balboa Park as part of their International Artist Series. \nThe concert will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. St. Andrew’s is located at 4816 Glen Street in La Mesa.

This year\, we are hoping to further expand the circle and the connections that come from doing this deep work together. \nGodly Play Core Training is $75 for members of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego\, and $355 for those outside of our diocese. \nThe times for each training day are below.\nYou must attend all three days of the training in order to receive a certificate of completion.\n– Friday\, May 30\, 3 PM – 9 PM\n– Saturday\, May 31\, 9 AM – 5:30 PM\n– Sunday\, June 1\, 12 PM – 5:30 PM \nREGISTRATION IS FULL FOR THIS TRAINING.

SUMMARY:A Special Movie Event – A Case for Love\, Pt. 1
DESCRIPTION:You’re Invited: A Special Movie Event – A Case for Love \nIn a time when our world feels increasingly divided\, A Case for Love invites us to explore a powerful question: Can unselfish love heal what divides us? \nInspired by Bishop Michael Curry—known for his moving sermon on “The Power of Love” at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—this documentary journeys across the U.S.\, uncovering stories of everyday people living selflessly. Through heartfelt interviews with individuals\, public figures like Pete Buttigieg\, Al Roker\, and Sam Waterston\, and reflections from Bishop Curry himself\, the film explores love in action across topics like racial justice\, military service\, foster care\, food insecurity\, and more. \nDirector Brian Ide shares that the film was born from a personal calling to respond to the growing disunity in our culture. With Bishop Curry’s words as a guide— “When love is the way… there’s plenty of room for all of God’s children”—the documentary invites us all to reflect: Is unselfish love truly the antidote we’ve been searching for? \nWe’ll be watching the film in three segments\, giving space for reflection\, discussion\, and connection. Your presence is welcome and meaningful\, whether you can attend one session or all three. Each session stands on its own\, so you won’t miss out if life gets in the way one week! \nMovie Schedule (2:00 – 3:30 PM):\n– Part 1: Saturday\, May 31\n– Part 2: Saturday\, June 14\n– Part 3: Saturday\, June 21 \nEach session begins in the church sanctuary for the film viewing\, followed by refreshments and group discussion in the Parish Hall. \nLocation: All Saints Episcopal Church\n651 Eucalyptus Ave.\nVista\, CA 92084 \nRSVP helpful but not required: office@allsaintsvista.org  \n“If it’s not about love\, it’s not about God.” -Bishop Michael Curry \n“And now these three remain: faith\, hope\, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” -1 Corinthians 13:13 \nCome for the message. Come for the fellowship. Come for the love.\nLet’s explore together what it means to live a life guided by grace and goodness.

SUMMARY:The Light Up the Cathedral
DESCRIPTION:The Light Up the Cathedral Service has its roots in outreach\, but it has become a beacon of hope\, love\, and interfaith inclusivity. This year\, you can join the LGBTQ+ community and faith leaders from throughout San Diego on July 16th at 7pm for Light Up the Cathedral and begin your Pride week in worship and love. \nTen years ago\, the newly arrived Dean Penny Bridges had a vision for the Cathedral community that was a unique approach for outreach to the LGBTQ community during Pride week in San Diego. The Pride Parade ends directly across the street from our church\, and the two-day festival takes place only two blocks away. Dean Penny believed lighting the Cathedral edifice in rainbow colors would make a statement to the thousands of people who pass by our location during the week. \nNo RSVP necessary.  Please arrive early as this event reaches capacity.

This annual event is a vibrant\, joyful witness to God’s inclusive love for all people\, especially our LGBTQIA+ siblings. \nWe’ll gather at St. Paul’s Cathedral (2728 Sixth Ave) at 8:00 a.m. to walk together to the parade staging area in Hillcrest. Once there\, we’ll celebrate Holy Eucharist in the heart of the city—surrounded by thousands preparing to march. It’s a moving and powerful moment of public worship and joyful community. \nFollowing the service\, we’ll join the parade along the 1.5-mile route\, walking\, singing\, and celebrating the diversity and love that defines both our faith and this event. \nFor those with mobility concerns\, St. Paul’s provides a trolley each year to ensure everyone can participate fully. Space is limited\, so if you’d like to reserve a seat on the trolley\, please contact Susan Jester at jesters@stpaulcathedral.org as soon as possible. \nAll are welcome—clergy\, laypeople\, friends\, families\, and allies. Wear your brightest colors\, bring water and sunscreen\, and come ready to share the Good News: The Episcopal Church welcomes you—no exceptions. \nThis is more than a parade. It’s an act of faith\, a celebration of love\, and a chance to stand together in courageous solidarity. We hope you’ll join us. \nLet’s walk in Pride—together. \n** Please Note: Our starting location can be found at PINK #40. Please be aware of street closures and increased traffic in the area.
