SUMMARY:Clergy Conference 2018
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Mission San Luis Rey for the 2018 Clergy Conference!  This year’s theme is “Compassionate Communication in These Times.” \nKeynote speaker Allan Rohlfs will share his knowledge with us on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. Allan is a psychotherapist with over 35 years of experience and is a certified NonViolent Communication trainer. NonViolent Communication (NVC) is a model for transforming any relationship or conversation\, including the most difficult\, into harmonious and caring conversations. \n“Most of us when confronted with another’s offensive behavior are limited in methods to influence the other to change\,” Rohlfs notes. “After asking politely we don’t know what to do\, except to get angry\, be sarcastic\, threaten\, call them names\, coerce them in some way\, or put up with it. This approach offers an alternative. It teaches you how to convey your negative reaction to someone or to hear their negative reaction to you in a way that transforms the communication from blame and punishment to openness and understanding. Frequently it works like magic—even though it is difficult to do and usually requires much practice! Referred to as the language of the heart\, NVC teaches how to disclose elements of reaction\, which at first are not apparent even to ourselves\, elements which are inherently both honest and at the same time non-accusatory. So from the outset the climate is non-threatening. And the response elicited is one of understanding rather than one of defensiveness.” \n  \nABOUT OUR PRESENTER \nUpdate: Compassionate Flexibility in These Times\nIllness prevents NonViolent Communication expert\, Allan Rohlfs\, from joining us for clergy conference. Instead we are happy to announce that we will hear from leaders of innovative ministries around our diocese\, including Laura Sheridan-Campbell\, Laurel Mathewson\, Colin Mathewson\, Lane Hensley\, Brian Johnson and Andrew Green. SUMMARY:Walkabout at St. Thomas for Clergy Only
DESCRIPTION:To attend the clergy walkabout day\,  RSVP by Sunday\, January 13 to Doria: adminasst@episcopalchurchtemecula.org\n\nTuesday\, January 15\, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.\nSt. Thomas of Canterbury\, 44651 Avenida de Missiones\, Temecula\, CA 92592 MAP\n\n\nA Letter from Andrew Green\nDear Friends\,\n\nThe upcoming clergy panel discussion on Tuesday\, January 15\, at St. Thomas\, Temecula\, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.\, will differ slightly from the other five Walkabout events.\n\nOur candidates will sit together as a panel. Each will make a brief introduction focused on their experience of clergy/bishop relationships and what each candidate believes our clergy need to know about them.\n\nNext\, the moderator will ask questions of the candidates that have been submitted by our clergy. You are invited to submit questions to rector@stpaulsps.org until Monday\, January 14 at 12 p.m.\n\nThe transition committee is suggesting questions from four different areas:\n\nThe candidate’s relationship with deacons\nThe candidate’s relationship with clergy in times of conflict\nThe candidate’s relationship with clergy as pastor and mentor\nThe candidate’s relationship with clergy in a changing church\n\nThese are not proscriptive\, but aspirational. We would like questions that invite candidates to offer their best as we discern together\, along with our lay delegates\, whom we believe God is calling to be the fifth bishop of San Diego.\n\nWe have some questions from clergy already and we need more. The transition committee will select the best questions to enhance our discernment. The most useful questions will allow our candidates to offer their best understanding of themselves and their ministries. Each of our candidates have offered themselves to our process in good faith and our questions will honor the best of their–and our–good faith.\n\nFaithfully\,\nThe Rev. Andrew Green\nWalkabout Sub-Committee\nRector\, St. Paul in the Desert\, Palm Springs

SUMMARY:United Thank Offering Ingathering
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, May 5 churches all over our diocese will once again gather in all the donations to the United Thank Offering (UTO) via the little blue mite boxes. Parishioners will assemble their United Thank Offering mite boxes that have accumulated thanksgivings and spare bills and change as part of the UTO Ingaterhing. \n  \nThe blue boxes are supplied by UTO. Every time you think of something you are grateful for\, you drop an offering into the box. By May 5\, you may have quite a few gratitudes to contribute to the ingathering. It’s just one more way to express gratitude to God in this life. \n  \nIn its earliest years in the 19th century\, UTO\, organized and run entirely by Episcopal women\, was at times the largest single source of funding for The Episcopal Church’s missionary work. Today its grants support state-of-the-art ministry on the leading edge of the #JesusMovement. A short history of UTO is here. \n  \nUTO’s “blue box” mite boxes and other supplies can be ordered from ShimaofNavajoland.com\, or call 928.729.5540. The items are free\, but shipping charges apply. The boxes usually arrive in four to five days. For other resources visit the United Thank Offering website. \n  \nAnyone interested in serving as a parish or mission UTO coordinator should speak with clergy and lay leaders\, then contact Jamie Wood: jamiecwood3@gmail.com. Jamie is available to speak about UTO and its with in your faith community.
