Border Immersion Visit – Tijuana: A Migrant City

October 1 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Tijuana: A Migrant City
A One-Day Border Immersion Visit
Saturday, October 1, 2022
8:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Join your fellow Episcopalians for a one-day immersion visit to Tijuana, B.C., Mexico as the Diocese of San Diego continues its discernment about future migration-related ministries in the region. After walking across the border at the Ped East crossing in San Ysidro, CA, easily accessible by car and trolley, we will be met by an air-conditioned bus.   The group, led by bilingual guides, will visit:

  • Colonia Buena Vista, where small migrant entrepreneurs build their businesses and develop community cohesion.
  • The Mixteco bilingual school (Mixteco/Spanish) which serves many US citizen children who have been deported from the United States with their indigenous parents.
  • Casa del Tunel, where we will be served lunch (included) prepared by micro-entrepreneurs.
  • Friendship Park, at the border near the Pacific Ocean.

The cost of the trip is $100.   A valid U.S. passport is required.  A limited number of partial Diocesan scholarships are available.  For more information, please contact Troy Elder, Migration Missioner, at telder@edsd.org.
