The Bishop's staff is dedicated to serving you. We are available to provide help, guidance and answer questions. Our office is nestled in the heart of St. Paul's Cathedral - adjacent to the 6th Avenue courtyard, on the lower level. We're open Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. We are closed from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm for lunch. You may park in metered spaces next to the Cathedral, or in the free spaces along Balboa Park.

Staff Directory
Bishop of San Diego
The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes was consecrated March 5, 2005 as the fourth bishop of San Diego. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics Magna Cum Laude from the University of the South, in Sewanee, Tennessee and a Master in Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. In 1991, he was ordained a deacon at St. Andrew's School, Sewanee, Tennessee and shortly thereafter, ordained to the priesthood at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Belmont, Massachusetts where he served as an assistant. Bishop Mathes and his wife, Terri, have two children.
